ABOUT  US

OUR FOUNDER

Diane Hickey, of the Village of DeSoto,  founded the Always a Nurse club back in 2020. Hickey started the group after realizing the first club for nurses was not meeting due to Covid, and not taking new members at the time. She met a few other nurses on the NextDoor platform, and they met outdoors in a pavilion in Fenney.

“I live in the southern end and that club met far north at Savannah Center,” Diane says. “I started the club at Water Lily Recreation Center so it’s a benefit to people who live in the southern half.”

Hickey said the name for the club came from the idea that nursing isn’t just a job. “It’s in your blood, it’s who you are. Once you become a nurse you will always take care of others and only other nurses get it.”

MISSION STATEMENT

With the knowledge that nurses across the world have many shared interests, The Always A Nurse Club of the Villages seeks to promote socialization for both professional and practical nurses no longer actively practicing; as well as professional growth and development for both retired and actively practicing nurses. The club also seeks to provide service to the community and mentorship for future nurses.

Please Note: The purpose of our Club is strictly a social group comprised for nurses.  We do not  provide recommendations or referrals to physicians,  groups, hospitals, etc.  We also do not provide club members for nursing assistance.  We encourage anyone in need of more information to pursue guidance from their physicians or specialists, or call The Villages Public Safety Department at 352-205-8280.

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT

Always a Nurse Club has decided to make the Neighbors Saving Neighbors Program their community service project this year. We have made personal protective equipment kits (PPE) to distribute to any AED group who would like them.
